Timothy Joel Finke Obituary 1959 2022 Carmel, Indiana

In addition to academics and the arts, Carmel High offers over 25 competitive interscholastic teams for boys and girls to compete athletically. CHS is known for exceptional results in Football, Baseball, Track and Field, Cross Country, Swimming and Diving, and Girl's Softball, boys and girls soccer, to name a few. While the outcome is not what we wanted, the Homecoming celebration and fun will continue with the planned bonfire and athletic recognitions. For the last several months, our district has been fortunate to have Dr. Foster serving as our interim Assistant Superintendent for Instruction while the position remained vacant. Throughout November, for Native American Heritage Month, several elementary and middle school classes had the opportunity to learn more about the traditions and way of life of the native people who inhabited, and still live in, our local areas. Read more and see photos from Native American Heritage Month lessons. We are excited for Michael to join the district’s administrative team and we look forward to working with him at Kent Elementary School. We also thank our interim principal, Anthony DiCarlo, for his dedicated guidance in the role over the last several weeks.

Departments

Throughout the year, students prepared for their final music concert as Kent Elementary students with songs from around the world. This year’s concert was a celebration of culture, language and music and featured songs from six different countries and in five different languages. See photos and a video from the Kent Elementary Grade 4 Music Celebration. CHS is also known for its Instrumental and Choral Music programs where students have achieved state and national recognition.

Read more about the history of sand paintings and see our students' creations. I am writing to you today to share some updates to the staffing changes within our district that I shared recently with you. These updates were shared at last night’s Board of Education meeting.

I remain immensely grateful for all that you do for our students every day. Again, we hope to see the entire Carmel Community at the parade and football game on Saturday. We also extend our heartful thanks to all those parents, staff members, and volunteers who are supporting our students in what is sure to be another memorable Spirit Week and Homecoming.

The last time we reviewed a strategic plan for the district was prior to the pandemic and so much has changed in two years! We are excited to embark on this journey over the next several months with the goal of a unified plan for our district’s future. I am writing to you today to share some exciting district initiatives underway and upcoming community events where you can join in the conversation to help shape the future of our district. As a reminder, should there be a need to delay opening, close schools or dismiss students early from school due to inclement weather, a recorded phone call, email and text will go out from the District. George Fischer Middle School students in Denise Scaperotti's class recently conquered the Marshmallow Challenge where they worked in teams to build the tallest free-standing marshmallow and spaghetti noodle tower with limited resources! Launched in 2018, our aim is to redefine luxury living with our products accessible to all.

This includes a 10-year review of our student achievement data. As we move into late-winter and spring, our partners will look to conduct surveys with parent groups, teachers and students to gain feedback on our district’s climate. We look forward to the opportunity to hear from you in this strategic planning process and value the contributions you each can provide. Our annual Homecoming Bonfire will kick off on Friday, October 7, at 6 p.m.

There was a sea of Spiderman, witches, firemen, superheroes, princesses, baseball players and more on parade from the elementary school through the District's administrative office building in the annual event. Recently, Carmel High School’s library offered campfire story sessions for students during free periods or lunch periods and to say it was a hit is an understatement. During the recent spooky season, students were invited to head to the library during their free periods or lunch periods for several storytelling events.

BOARD OF ED MEETING; 6:30 P.M., MPES CAFETERIA

Most recently, Michael has served as an elementary school principal and MTSS Coordinator in Millbrook Central School District. We look forward to welcoming our students and staff back to our buildings for the first day of the school year later this week. As a reminder, Thursday, September 1, will be a full day of school for our students in grades 1-12, and a modified school day for our incoming kindergarten students with an orientation and bus run. Detailed information about the schedule for the incoming kindergarten students was emailed directly from the elementary schools’ principals. Thank you to our teachers and staff for continuing to make connections with our students every day and supporting them in their educational journey.

Thank you for all the families who connected with our faculty over parent teacher conferences. If you still have any questions or comments about your child’s education here at KES, please do not hesitate to reach out. You can contact the classroom teacher, our social worker Mrs. Carillo, Mr. Kenny, our school psychologist, or the main office. Thank you again for partnering with us in your child's education. Please read below, as we have a busy calendar for this upcoming month with many events that may be of interest to you.

Carmel Athletics Hall of Fame

We have plans to re-evaluate this role, as well as the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction role, in spring to determine our next steps. We will continue to update the Carmel community as we work to fill positions permanently. At Tuesday night’s Board of Education meeting, based on my recommendation, Michael Setaro was appointed as the new principal of Kent Elementary School. Michael will begin at Kent Elementary School in September and comes to the district with nearly two decades of educational leadership and teaching experience.

If our school is selected to be part of the survey, we will be reporting to the New York State Department of Health information about our students’ weight status groups. No names and no information about individual students are sent. However, you may choose to have your child’s information excluded from this survey report.

Seeing so many of our students and families gathering in new and fun ways has been amazing. Our families are our greatest supporters of our teachers and staff when it comes to the academic, social and emotional development of our students. Your support is what makes CHS a special place in which to learn and grow. We appreciate your partnership, and we thank you, especially during the holiday season for your support of our students. To our students, especially the Class of 2022, congratulations on an amazing year full of wonderful memories, growth, accomplishments and, of course, fun.
